Be the change you wish to see in
the world yourself.
Foreword: Not being familiar with Gandhi and his teachings, I was surprised that the statement “Be the change you wish to see in the world” is infact a tweak of a statement he made;
“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.” – Gandhi
I couldn’t help (as the sceptic I am) think that Gandhi inevitably regurgitated biblical scripture: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” Proverbs 23:7 , “ Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
Whichever teaching you agree with,Gandhi/Solomon/Paul the message is similar, change within yourself will be expressed in your habits/actions/feelings. I’ve been banging on about change here there and everywhere, but I just hadn’t cracked the code of change. I may not know everything but I know a couple of things. I am naturally* a left-brained specimen, i.e. a person who is “left-brained” is often said to be more logical, analytical and objective, while a person who is “right-brained” is said to be more intuitive, thoughtful and subjective. – More Here *Although I believe this notion will limit you ability to become the fully functioning you regardless of what brain the test suggested you were… #FFT
Word: I’ll try not to get too side-tracked from the point, which is often the case when you write. It’s amazing where your mind will start taking you just off one topic alone so bear with me (in all my posts) and I’m sure you will find one thing within these words “interesting”, or better yet, something you can relate to!
This is how I’ve been spending my time…
For way too long I’ve been doing absolutely nothing. Dormant, alive but not actively growing. A full testimony of the Living/Existing debate. Okay so I’ve tried my small hands at graphics, don’t try grade me on this, I’m a beginner. Nevertheless, you can see (from the pie-chart showing how I usually spend a day).. if I’m not asleep, or attempting to do University work I am wasting my time. “Stuff” and “Thinking” actually means… watching my Twitter Timeline, chilling in the counsel of the Ungodly, all the other day-to-day activities such as eating, “a bit of tele”.
Okay it’s not that deep of course I do other productive things but not half as much as I could/want to be doing. This may be an exaggeration but I am trying to challenge myself to change what I do, in order to become what I want to be. Although most of my “stuff” time is spent doing things I love and enjoy, the motives behind it are all wrong. Often after spending hours blog-surfing and sermon watching, I feel pressure to be at a level which I haven’t even begun working towards. Then I feel like I’m so behind at everything, and everyone is doing so much better than me? I Thank God for the people that are doing so well at what they do that it has made me want to change, not to become like them, but to become the best me.
This is how I hope to spend my time…
Okay so already this looks like a much more fun way to pass 24 hours. It will be [God Willing] but it will not in anyway shape or form be easy. I hope to fill 12 hours of “thinking” and “stuff” and do things that [I believe] will benefit me in days to come. This is not a new concept to me as almost everything I wish to do I have done it/something similar before. It’s the matter of starting it all over again after years of training myself out of routine. I need discipline, I need accountability, I need prayer! (no, seriously guys, I actually need prayer). So whilst I get my check-list in order, what will you be doing to become the change you wish to see in yourself. If you are well and good then Praise God your house is in order. If not, seriously consider how you manage your time, a resource which we can neither have too much off nor enough off.
Okay so less talk, More action… While I act on all this, feel free to have yourself a reckoning day, figuring out what/whom needs to stay or shift. Failure or success, I promise to keep an honest update of “Being the change I wish to see in myself” – Yours Faithfully
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.) – Zechariah 4:10
Disappointment, one of those things we all encounter. In every half-hearted “yes”, in the “maybe’s”, the indefinite “no”. When your expected need is not met, the dream you hoped for is not fulfilled you may experience an overwhelming feeling of disappointment. But [I believe] this can be a tool to reconcile your focus back to the original vision. Maybe you lost zeal along the way or simply missed the aim of the game completely. You need to be disappointed in order to be re-appointed, aligned with what was your original hope. At a certain time and a place in your life you were unstoppable, filled with you and ready to possess the land. However, by interacting with people you thought held the answers, they probably didn’t suffice. Why should they? It was a God given hope, the hope of your calling. “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called–his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” Ephesians 1:18
You are disappointed in things, people (or lack off) but I pray for a replenished hope [for you]. With news and stories spreading at the rate they do, (Kudos Twitter, Facebook RSS), do not be surprised to be flicking through your would’ve been/in your dreams husband’s photos of his new wife, holding their new-born weighing in at 8 lbs. Such is life. Such therefore, is disappointment. Like bitterness and loneliness, if not dealt with, disappointment will bring contempt. So you’re disappointed, things didn’t work out they way you wanted them to, they are working out EXACTLY how God intended them to…
Do not despise small beginnings i.e. Don’t be dis-heartened when you have to start all over again, Don’t be intimidated by what others are doing. Hold onto [the hope of] your calling. And if you see yourself starting over and over again at the same thing, figure out the lesson to be learnt. Where are you going wrong. If it is something within your reasoning, change it. If not, pray about it. Let God rejoice in your efforts of trying to gather up the vision that you have left. And if your flame is truly burnt out, start a new fire. A start no matter how small, is a start, it pleases God that you are trying. That regardless of how disastrous the past 50 attempts where, let your Faith allow you to try the 51st time….
And of course, God is faithful “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” Philippians 1:6
And of course, God has a plan “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
And of course, God loves you “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?” Romans 8:35
– Yours Faithfully
I thank God for seasons, in the earth and spiritually. For me, seasons are chapters i.e. “A distinct period or sequence of events, as in history or a person’s life”. When certain things keep happening (to you) or you feel a certain way for a period of time, that could be a season in one’s life.
The bible states in Ecclesiastes 3:1-22 “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;”
Knowing this you can be certain that nothing just happens; rather the God Of Seasons is up to something. (read more here)
Is it therefore important to be aware of what Season you are in within yourself. Preparation is paramount and here’s why…
When the British Summertime finally kicks in, be it in August for a day or two, you would want to have the right clothes/shoes to set out to the beach & bbq’s right? Same thing in the spirit. When God has a new season/chapter for you, YOU HAVE TO BE READY! Or you will miss the whole thing and have to wait till it comes back around again. Same way if you are absent for summer, you will be waiting a whole lot till the weather report is fibbing you of 20+ temperatures. And you do NOT want to miss the season God has for you because [I believe] it will be better than your current. On the contrary, seasons can also be bleak. Winter is my least preferred season because I generally flourish in sunshine. Having said this, IF it was not for such torturous times, I would not appreciate and be thankful for warm pleasant summer days. Well, SO IT IS in the spirit. (I think you get the gist) Most things in the earth are an allegory to your spirit.
Having said all this, seasons are therefore a time to fix up, grow up and get ready for change. We often express a hope for change in succinct statements such as “I feel like it’s going to be a good day”..”I feel like I’m growing up”..”I can see light at the end of the tunnel”. This may not necessarily be the case at the present moment as your hope is an expected end before you see the results. That feeling you get of “things will not always be bad”, take that as massive flashing red-light that change is on the way. When you have a hope that things will not always be the same 1. Thank God 2. Get Ready and clean up house, rather, clean up your life.
Spring cleaning is the practice of thoroughly cleaning a house in the springtime. The practice of spring cleaning is especially prevalent in climates with a cold winter. The most common usage of spring cleaning refers to the yearly act of cleaning a house from top to bottom which would take place in the first warm days of the year typically in spring, hence the name. However it has also come to be synonymous with any kind of heavy duty cleaning or organizing enterprise. A person who gets their affairs in order before an audit or inspection could be said to be doing some spring cleaning.
Need I say more? It’s time to get your affairs in order. Be it April or December, one (myself included) ought to be sensitive to the events in their life and make a reflective assessment of Life So Far and not continue day to day as if life is a precarious moment. That is one of the reasons we as people don’t grow and move forward. We have not taken the time out to look back at what went wrong/right, what you could’ve done to prevent/encourage it and move on. Some people get stuck at the stage of looking back, figured it was a complete disaster and there is no way of moving on. Well, there is my friend, “where there’s a will there’s a way – meaning that if you are determined enough, you can find a way to achieve what you want, even if it is very difficult” You want to change? But don’t know how, at least you’ve made the wise decision to realise that your current situation is not for you and you need to get out of there before you fall back into the cycle of defeat. If you miss your train of change (today) Lord knows when such grace to change will rest upon your shoulders. Take the chance, to believe God [by Faith] that he can prepare you from whatever it is you have been stuck in, ready to deliver you into the place in which you belong, Back To Bethel.
See the thing with change, it does not come easy *cliché levels tun up* but it IS worth it. Real change does not come easy because it requires to confront the dust you have been storing up during your difficult chapters. The cobwebs you have swept under trying to avoid the harsh weather outside and you have protected and covered up for so long, you don’t even know what it is you’re storing! Real change will require you to invoke God for the grace and strength and most importantly to ask God “What is my next step?” My dirty laundry may not necessarily be the same as yours, but it is still dirty, and it needs to aired ASAP. The same process of physical laundering applies to spiritual laundering. The first step… BRING ‘EM OUT BRING ‘EM OUT!!! (hahaha)Not actually but this means approaching God, at the throne of grace, to receive mercy and find grace to help you in your time of need
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” – Hebrews 4:16
People are scared of God, as we should be with reverence, but we should not be scared to approach a loving, merciful and kind God. Christianity, like any relationship, is a two-party system, except with God “there are no surprises”. A man might reject you for your honesty, some people will never even speak to you again for feeling how you felt. But with God, YOU KNOW exactly what you’re getting.He said it in his word;
“The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” – Lamentations 3:22-23
The mercy and the grace is abundant, New every morning. Your part is to approach the throne with confidence. Boldly ask for what is rightfully yours (through the Blood of Jesus) and receive it! Simples! The verse doesn’t say come under condemnation, feeling sorry for yourself, in uncertainty, rather come believing that because you have approached God in the season of change he will do.That is why I write, to share the faith & confidence I have in God,not to show-off or sound like I know my stuff. I am just learning and depending on God for everything else but [I believe, by Faith] that nothing I write is in vain, or in my own glory, rather for his glory. So you’ve brought out the laundry, i.e. received the mercy and grace, Now what!? Clean Up That Mess!
Scrub Scrub Scrub;
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9
Often I’ve read/heard this verse without really magnifying the importance of the win-win deal breaker plainly laid out to every believer. Again we see the two-way relation between God and Man, if we confess.. he is faithful and righteous. Another interesting point I heard in preaching is that yes our sins will be confess but God also CLEANSES us i.e.”To free from dirt, defilement, or guilt; purge or clean.” [I believe] this is a continuous process through healing of which all traces of past seasons. The harsh times, the filthy times the times. Sin is missing the mark altogether, which we are all susceptible to. Unrighteousness however, [I believe] is knowing the truth but making the choice not to act on it. And the stains of unrighteousness will need cleansing. In order to move forward and grow into the you God has created you to be, you need deep cleansing, thorough cleaning…
“If one person sins unintentionally, he shall offer a female goat a year old for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement before the Lord for the person who makes a mistake, when he sins unintentionally, to make atonement for him, and he shall be forgiven… But the person who does anything with a high hand, whether he is native or a sojourner, reviles the Lord, and that person shall be cut off from among his people. Because he has despised the word of the Lord and has broken his commandment, that person shall be utterly cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.” Numbers 15:27-31
There is a demarcation between unintentional sin and the sin of a high-hand Hebrew, “with an high” or “uplifted hand”–that is, knowingly, wilfully, obstinately. But there is a solution to all sin and unrighteousness, Jesus Christ. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” 2 Corinthians 5:12 Plain and simply put, not subliminal or incoherent. Jesus became sin so that we may become the righteousness of God.
“Jesus taught that true righteousness is not that which men regard as righteous based upon external appearances, but that so judged by God based upon His assessment of the heart: “And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God”” Luke 16:15 – More Here
So it is your heart and your confession that God is waiting for. Confess your sins, and I’m talking real confession. Not the stuff you don’t address in prayer as if God wasn’t there when you did it, not the stuff that you’ve thought about as if God doesn’t know your thoughts. Say it all! Some People think “Well, If God knows it all anyway what am I doing telling him what he already knows?” That is the type of stagnant thinking that will prevent your season of change, an enemy of progress. Confession and Prayer are activating agents which cause the blood of Jesus to scrub scrub scrub! You see when we are filled with sin and unrighteousness it prevents the flow of God in certain areas of your life; Hence you wonder “Why am I not progressing in my job, Why am I always broke, Why do I always meet the same Jane Doe’s” You have been covering up and attempting to get away with murder.
Now is a new chapter, a new season, a new day, full of new mercies and abundant grace. The blood was shed over 2000 years ago, and it still works today; In fact it never does lose power, never did and never will. More Here Think about it this way, if you were trapped in a room, cold, dark and weary, and there was a door to get out and all you needed was to get up and get the key (which was right in front of your eyes), eventually you would get so fed up of being in the dark room you will get up, get the key and open the door. The cold dark room is your old life, The door is new chapter, The key is Jesus and the getting up is your part, your part is to pray, confess and believe!
Feel free to be bold and air out your laundry, don’t let a new season catch you unprepared and get excited for all the new and good and acceptable things God has in-store for you. And if today is just not the day for you, the method is there and always will be but there is no time like the present to clean up house!
You are loved, You have a purpose, You were created to be free and express the God in you without the baggage from the past.
Change is a gift to grow, embrace it and challenge yourself. Refuse to be trapped there is always, and I mean ALWAYS a way out.
Ask God to show you which way to go, and to continuously order your steps and you will begin to witness the miracle that is the Love of God.

Are you so busy falling in love that you forget praying, in love.
Are you so busy judging the damned that you forget correcting, the heart.
Are you so busy pointing fingers that you forget to love, thy neighbour.
Are you so busy writing the rule books that you forget the book, of life.
Are you so busy filling up with pride, Oh so pompous! that you forget to humble, yourself.
Are you so busy looking at back then, the rights wrongs and mishaps that you forget to breathe, in the now.
Are you so busy engulfed in words unspoken expressed on a broken face that you forget to heal, within.
Are you so busy protecting those you love that you forget to enunciate your God, given eclectic.
Are you so busy in oppression from his-n-her’s possession that you forget to feel free, to feel good.
Don’t be so busy that you get caught up and miss your Kairos.
Everything you’ve bled and sweated for was for such a time as this,
and you are willing to give it all away because “YOU FORGOT!”
Prepare yourself as the bride prepares for the bridegroom, for such a time as this.
Put on your whole armour and establish, your-self.
Stand firm and enlarge, your-territory.
With a garment of praise, enlarge your territory and guard, your-heart.
With grace, elegance and poise, maintain fabulosity
and when all else fails, keep the faith and rise;
If you do however stumble, or better yet completely fall, rise up and dust the dirt off.
In the process of rising hold onto [your] God, and let the Angels do the dusting.
Maintain you heart do not hold contempt, strife or rebellion
For “Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols” – 1 Samuel 15:23
Good Morning/Good Afternoon wherever and whoever you are I hope you are having a Good Friday, as it would be fitting to the occasion. I’ve been having the Good-est Friday(fabricated but fits perfectly) …
Foreword: I woke up early(ier) than usual, better mood than I’ve had all week which means only one thing my mind was charged and ready to cease the day. THENNN I fell into the shocking habit of checking the Social Media scene before I jumped out of bed, saw something which “I HAD to write about” and here I am. I hate apologising for doing what I [love to] do, so I won’t. Rather I pray that these words don’t fall on deaf ears (my worst fear) and I encapsulate the true meaning of this season, less the eggs and bunnies.
Okay so THIS (above) image is circling around various social mediums. I chose to ignore it first time round, but once I saw it on Twitter (@faithfullyrooky) I could smell an up-roar of speculation from the “non-religious” folk, which I hate more than anything. I hate it when something that looks so intricately put together would have someone to come to one definite conclusion (not to celebrate Easter) because of SUCH! Therefore I went down a mini research-road and I have concluded a couple of things I would like to clarify about the image and Easter in general.
1) The ACTUAL image in the picture is of “The Burney Relief – (also known as the Queen of the Night relief “) and NOT OF ISHTAR..
“The so-called Burney relief was discovered by archaeologists in what appeared to be a personal shrine, in the Fertile crescent of the Middle East in what used to be ancient Mesopotamia , also known as Sumer, and Babylon.” – MORE HERE
2) However, the Image/Statue (which is currently kept in the British Museum) ” is often considered to represent an aspect of Ishtar. So who is “Ishtar”
Ishtar was the ancient Sumero-Babylonian goddess of love and fertility. She is often described as the daughter of Anu, the god of the air. In most of the myths concerning her, she is described as an evil, heartless, women who destroyed her mates and lovers. Her greatest lover was the farm god Tammuz, who is similar to the Greek Adonis. After he died she went into the underworld to retrieve him but her efforts were vain and she returned to the living world alone. – MORE HERE
I read this, saw too many “Goddesses” which was a BORE as I only believe in One, Sovereign God and the whole thing was screaming out Pagan-ism and Idol worship. But there is more to it than that…The text (above) denotes her symbols, the egg and the bunny (which is beginning to answer a question I’ve had for years)
3) “When did they have time to do the whole egg thing Jesus’ time andddd who actually started this whole egg-fest, surely it’s just another method to deter you and I from the Cross (the real reason for the season)…”
Easter eggs are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime. As such, Easter eggs are common during the season of Eastertide. In Christianity, they symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus.: though an egg appears to be like the stone of a tomb, a bird hatches from it with life; similarly, the Easter egg, for Christians, is a reminder that Jesus rose from the grave, and that those who believe will also experience eternal life.
Eggs, in general, were a traditional symbol of fertility, and rebirth, pre-dating Christian traditions. The practice of decorating eggshell is ancient. Ostrich eggs with engraved decoration that are 60,000 years old have been found in Africa. Decorated ostrich eggs, and representations of ostrich eggs in gold and silver, were commonly placed in graves of the ancient Sumerians and Egyptians as early as 5,000 years ago.
In particular, the custom of the Easter egg originated amongst the early Christians of Mesopotamia, who stained eggs red in memory of the blood of Christ, shed at his crucifixion. The Christian Church officially adopted the custom, regarding the eggs as a symbol of the resurrection; – WIKI
4) Okay so (Thank God for Jesus and WIKI) which manages to clarify, to an extent, certain things for me in my day to day life from Essays to WordPress; however credible (or not..) which can help my attempt to clear up the issue:
– The egg itself symbolises fertility (nb* women have eggs laid aside in our wombs ready to be fertilised WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT lol )
– The egg itself represented the tomb in which Jesus rose from the grave, alive, as a bird (or equivalent) would hatch out.
– Ostrich Eggs – the biggest of them all , where decorated back in the day with silver & gold hence the pretty foil we get on our eggs today.
-The origins of this celebration where from the “early Christians of Mesopotamia” the same place they discovered The Burney Relief (the image behind the text)
5) Knowing all this, I can confidently say there driving force behind the egg business is a combination of genuine heart for resurrection celebration AND pagan Gods. Combining this with Western Civilisation (most often) means disaster, in the sense that the true meaning of “the easter egg” which ACTUALLY did point to the cross, the resurrection there-off, is concealed within the silver and gold and the delectable (chocolate).
Look-ey HERE I ain’t tryna put you off your eggs, I am just trying to give a mini Christ-Class to the whole thing!
6) Even THE PRESIDENT Get’s involved: The White House Easter Egg Roll is an annual family event to hunt for and race Easter Eggs on the White House Lawn while enjoying storytelling and a visit with the Easter Bunny…
Lord know’s what the Bunny means… shall be looking into that Tomorrow!!
